It is also the name given to the month-long\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/May_Day\">May Day<\/a>\u00a0festival celebrated on the Caribbean coast. Both the festival and dance are an Afro-Nicaraguan tradition which originated in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bluefields\">Bluefields<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nicaragua\">Nicaragua<\/a>\u00a0in the 17th century.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Palo_de_Mayo#cite_note-1\">[1]<\/a><\/sup><br><br>The video is bit blurry, but it certainly emphasises what the Wikipedia says about the evolution in the style of the dance &#8211; from an elegant polka to a far more sensual dance.
